Random Thoughts

Nothing really interesting or exciting has gone on the last couple of days, so I thought I'd just put some general thoughts down.

  • Cards are trailing 4-1 in the 6th right now after two late-inning heroics the last couple of nights to beat the Pirates. I'm guessing the team is finding it a bit hard to get "up" for a last-place team when they are just about to clinch the division. Looks like they'll be clinching at Wrigley, which should really burn some Cub fans!
  • Carpenter struggled last night for the first time in a while. The Cards bailed him out, and I don't think it was bad enough to do damage to his Cy Young chances. But I am getting a little concerned about Dontrelle Willis. He might make a challenge to Carpenter before it's all said and done.
  • Benjamin has taken a couple more steps here and there, but nothing big. He's definitely not taking off on his own yet, but I know it's coming!
  • A storm rumbled through this morning and it's been raining most of the day, keeping the temperatures down. It's about time there was some fall-like weather around here! I see where it's supposed to creep back up to 95 next week--hope they are wrong about that. This weekend should be fairly nice, though. Might even do some yardwork if it is. Hey, I make no promises.
  • Lost is starting to pick up steam. We have a disc and a half left, so I think we'll get it all caught up before the season starts. We just watched Hurley's story about the numbers, so that's an intriguing plot point.
  • The county fair started here last night. Meron and I usually don't go (we aren't much for the rides), but we thought this year we might take Benjamin so he could see the animals and everything. Don't know when or if we'll get out there, but I'm sure it'll be an experience if we do.
  • I've moved (at the moment) within a point of Matt in my rotisserie league. It's likely going to come down to runs and RBI, but I'm not sure my team can get over the hump. It should be interesting for another week or two, at least, if it doesn't come down to the final day. There is a lot of extraneous activity going on in that league, but hopefully it will help us come up with some tighter and better rules.
  • Razorbacks play USC this weekend. Most everyone around the country is expecting a slaughter, and it probably will be one. That said, most everyone thought Texas would have no trouble with us the last couple of years, and the Hogs won the first game and should have won last year's game as well. Just something to keep in mind.
  • Even though Andruw Jones leads the majors in HR, I still think Pujols deserves the MVP. He's carried the best team in baseball while they've dealt with a myriad of injuries this year. Someone shouldn't be docked because they are just so consistently good.
  • That's probably enough for today. Take care, all!
