Snow Day

After a fun day (mainly morning) enjoying the rare blessing of a bunch of snow, here's the photographic evidence.
Benjamin really had a lot of fun in the snow. Here he is holding the scarf he brought out to put around the snowman's neck. When we went out in the morning, the snow was pretty fine and not really wet enough for snowman making. That came after lunch.

Ken, the PPT head and lab owner himself, has said in the past that snow is "Labrador cocaine". We've noted in the past that Dax has gotten really worked up when it snows, running and having a big ole time. When I got up this morning and first let her out, she didn't really want to have much to do with the piles of white stuff, hurrying back inside. It may be that she forgot what snow was all about, because the more that she went out in it, the more excited she got. She finally was zipping around the backyard at full speed, just glorying in the conditions.

We had a little bit of snow at the end of January, just basically enough to dust the grass. At that time, though, Benjamin had to get down and do a snow angel, which was hard to do in that about of snow. A little easier to do today! I got him started the first time (pictured) by putting him in the snow but after that he'd flop down often to start flapping his arms and legs.

Sarah wasn't really that excited about the snow. She seemed to have the opinion, when sat down in it, that anytime she was cold and wet, she should be getting changed. The rest of the time she was outside, she was being held by mommy or daddy and watching the fun. Occasionally she gave a big grin, but on the whole, it wasn't a big deal for her.

Here are my two girls together. Meron had a blast with the snow--it reminded her of home and she's always missed having big snows down here. She was the one that went back out to build the snowpeople with Benjamin after coming in to warm up.

Now, personally, I've always been a very dignified person, as you all know.......

OK, maybe not so much.

What, dog wrestling isn't the sport of kings?

I had a blast in the snow as well, diving into it, tackling Benjamin and just generally acting like a kid again.

There's always time for snow baseball. Benjamin and I had fun trying to hit snowballs and seeing how much they'd spray us when we did.

As I said, after lunch Meron and Benjamin went back out to make a snowman. Benjamin wasn't happy with just one, saying he had to have a buddy. So we present to you Snow Benjamin and Snow Sarah. Unfortunately, the life span of these snow sculptures was very limited. Snow Benjamin fell over within a hour of his completion and Snow Sarah has started sliding as well.

It wasn't all fun and games, though. At the edge of the front of the house, we had a tree that looked for all the world like a natural Christmas tree. In the past, we've draped lights around it and watched it get bigger and bigger. This is what it looked like today, split in different directions and weighed down with the snow. I haven't been back out there to see if it has rebounded with the snow melt or not.

The temperature got up to the mid 40s this afternoon and much of the snow has already melted. The roads are clear and tomorrow's high of 57 probably will finish it all off quickly. But no matter how short it was, it was a great day.

One more picture. It may be the one I'm most proud of from today:
