It's Almost Time

OK, to start with, here's one that my friend Dana would appreciate, if she was still blogging. (Huge slacker, don't get me started.) Anyway, last night was some sort of big football game. Why a football game is big, I still don't completely grasp, but we'll let that slide right at the moment. So a group of friends got together and brought food. I went out and bought some cupcakes. They were organized and frosted so they looked like a big football player. Well and good. People ate some at the party, but since Meron's dealing with the sugar, I couldn't take them home. So I brought them to the office and left them here for others to eat.

So I get back from lunch at Stoby's (which is becoming a payday tradition since Benjamin loves the train inside and being able to pull the chain for the train whistle outside) and look in our break room. Someone has taken a knife and cut a cupcake in half, leaving the other half.

Who the heck can't eat a whole cupcake? Are you on the most anal-rententive diet there is? I mean, really, who does that?

So, yes, the Super Bowl was last night, and we had a good time getting together. A good friend of mine is a Bears fan (plus hates all things Tennessee, including Manning), so I'm fairly sure Shively is grieving today. For my part, I didn't mind seeing the Colts win, though I would have been fine with a Bears win as well. As I told the group last night, "The best thing about the Super Bowl is that there are 10 days until spring training."

And I'm getting very excited about the coming season. I'm ready to see some baseball! The URL is slowing down some now that the rosters are full and we are almost done with the minor league draft, but the Friends League is starting to pick up some steam. Keepers due in less than a month, the draft in less than two..... It's a wonderful thing. Plus the baseball magazines that are coming out, having the XM radio will 24/7 baseball coverage, it all adds up to being ready for April.

Poker again this week really should go better than the last outing, because if not there's hardly any reason for me to show up. I was gone within a couple of hours, didn't win a clean pot (bought one and split one) and just couldn't get in a rhythm of anything. It'll be better this week. It has to be.

Still working on the naming thing. Sometimes we think we are getting somewhere, but other times, not so much. At least we still have a little under four months to figure it out!

Lost returns this week, which is great. The problem is that here, basketball is on the ABC affiliate on Wednesday nights. So Lost probably won't air until the middle of the night. Lovely stuff. But we'd be taping it anyway, so that's not that big of a deal, I guess. And 24 is rocking right along. Caught up on that this weekend, finding out about Jack's brother. Just imagine the power noogies he dealt out as a kid!

Benjamin is doing pretty well. He's been battling a cough and general sinus junk, and Saturday he ran a bit of a fever and coughed so much he threw up. We called the doctor and got a different antibotic and another medicine to clear him up, but he seemes to be fine even without those. Just being ornery and not listening to his mother, which is driving her up the wall. That's what a two-year-old does best, isn't it? That and wanting everything from the Thomas collection that he doesn't already have. He's going to get a piece for Valentine's Day and for Easter, but he doesn't know that yet, thankfully!

OK, since I've been called out for not updating my blog, hopefully this will count (and that it won't be that long next time!)

Poker ain't much fun when you have a night like you had. I've been there. The only advice I can give is to hang on. Eventually things swing back your way, and when they do, it's a wonderful feeling!
