Softball Update

Another game, another loss for the church softball team. While we were again run ruled, this one wasn't as bad as the last, nor as bad as I was afraid of.

When we had the pregame prayer, I looked at the other team. I'm not sure that any of them were over 20. That didn't seem to bode well for us, since our youngest, at least that was there last night, was around 24 or so.

What they had in youth, though, they didn't have in playing experience. Our first batter of the game rapped it back to the mound--but reached when the pitcher overthrew first base by a considerable margin. They did have a few errors and we were able to score 3 before they batted.

They scored six in the bottom of the inning, though, and part of that was my fault. With two on, the batter pops one up foul behind home plate. I was catching last night, so I got up and went after it, but it got beyond me. After admonishing the hitter not to do that again, he immediately does. This time, I was able to get the top of the glove on it but that was all. The third pitch, the hitter roped into the outfield, scoring both runners.

They didn't run rule us until the bottom of the fifth, and by then the clock was down to just 7 minutes remaining anyway. If we'd been able to field a little better, it'd been a closer game.

I drew a walk in my first at-bat and finally made it around to score. My second time up, I hit a ball to the shortstop area that must have been a little hard to handle, because I beat it out for a hit, but was then erased on a double-play ball by the next hitter.

Don't play again until next week, though we may try to get in a practice Sunday. I need it for foul balls!

Oh, and since last time, I actually got out and mowed my yard. It's only the second time I've done that since I got out of the hospital. Nothing went terribly wrong, but I definitely was feeling it the next day. Looks like I'll be doing that this summer, so I'm sure there will be wonderful stories to tell.
