Months ago, when Meron and I were trying to get pregnant but hadn't confirmed our success yet, I woke up one day with a strong impression--that she was indeed pregnant and it was a girl.
Less than a week later, the pregnancy test comes back positive. One down.
Today we had the ultrasound. Two down.
Yes, we are having a girl. I'm still trying to wrap my head around that one. It's been a while since there's been a girl in the family, at least on my side. My dad had four brothers and one younger sister, who died about 15 years ago. My mom had a brother. My mom's brother had three boys, while it's me and my brother on our side. So there's not been a girl around the direct family in a long time.
Needless to say, my mother was very happy when we told her today, and I know Meron's mom especially will be as well, as her dad will be when we call him.
Raising Benjamin has been a wonderful joy but the "first child" challenge, where everything is new and you are feeling your way along. I've felt that him being a boy has helped that along somewhat, as I think we relate well to each other.
A girl, though? Man, I don't know what I'm going to do! I'm sure she'll wind up wrapping me around her little finger, but the thought of a teenage girl running around the house scares the stuffing out of me. I know that's a long way down the road, but still.....
On the whole, though, everyone is quite excited. Meron's doing well with controlling her sugar. She's still testing 4 times a day, but rarely gets out of the acceptable levels. The baby is 11 ounces right now and we've scheduled the c-section for May 23. So mark it on your calendars if you are so inclined!
Nothing else really going on around here. Staying busy with work and church, of course. Meron and I are going to Little Rock this weekend. I used Hotwire and got a hotel reservation for our anniversary, but made it for this weekend so we could miss the Christmas crowds, etc. and have a good time. Benjamin's going to spend the night with my parents and we're going to try out some restaurants, do a little shopping, and actually sleep in for a change!
That's about it for now, but what an "it" it is!

Congrats on the little girl! ~Kerri, Blake, Gabi, & Micah
Awesome..! Congrats! You've got the American dream -- wife, son, daughter, house, job.
Daniel,
It has been a long time since I had a daughter and son. As I recall the big difference was in the plumbing. ONe is outdoor and one indoor plumbing.
It takes 3 years to get a girl to talking. It takes the rest of your life to get her to stop.
Boys don't talk. The communicate through a series of primeval grunts and growls. They only discuss three subjects: food, girls and sports. They think about the second subject every 20 minutes.
Congratulations to you both. We are happy for y'all.
Look forward to seeing the Cats and Hawgs play football and basketball this year. Don't tell anyone, but the boyz in blue are a bit slow. I like your chances this year.
Seriously, girls steal a lot of hearts, but it is the father's heart that is the first to go. You've been blessed again. Get your rest... you're going to need it.
In Christ,
Phil D.
Very exciting news, C! I'm so happy for you.
Congratulations! Thank Heaven for little girls...
