That's A Winner!

While there haven't been a lot of updates on the church softball team as of late, that doesn't mean it's been a terrible season. In our second game, we held a 13-7 lead going into the last inning before the other team rallied to win 15-13. In our next game, we played very shorthanded but still weren't run-ruled, losing at a respectable 15-7 clip.

Tonight, however, we broke through.

We still weren't at full strength, not even having enough bodies to have a DH. However, the opposing team looked a lot like our teams in the past, with willing spirits but perhaps not the most talented of bodies.

That said, it still looked like there were going to be problems. The opposition had two on with two outs in the first and were able to get those two in before the third out was recorded. It wasn't that things looked grim, but you just had to hope that we could hang in there with them. That didn't turn out to be a problem.

We batted around in just about every inning, finally posting an 18-2 victory. Almost everyone had a hit as we continued to make good contact on a regular basis. I went 4-4, with my first hit being a little flare behind shortstop on a high pitch I had no business swinging at. The other three, however, were solid line drives that I felt pretty good about.

We play again Friday, this time against a team that last year was fun to play against, even if they outclassed us. We'll see if we've improved enough this year to hang with them. Then, on Monday, we face the team that hung 30 on us in the opener. We should have a full squad by then, so maybe we can give them a little bit of a surprise this time around.
