Bunkbeds

These aren't going to be in chronological order. I'm just going to get entries up when I can.

We've never been great with our kids and their sleeping habits. We tried with Benjamin, putting him in his crib (and then his toddler bed), getting up with him at night, putting him back down, etc. But when I went into the hospital with GBS, Meron just let him start sleeping in the bed with her, because it was so much easier. While we got him into his toddler bed after that, he often would wander into our room and get into bed with us sometime in the night.

With Sarah, honestly, we didn't even try. After she spent the six weeks or so in the bassinet in our room, she was in our bed. When it was time, we got a toddler bed from our friends Chris and Tiffany. Months later, we returned it to them for their daughter, unused by Sarah (at least for sleeping.) With her with us and Benjamin climbing in sometime in the middle of the night, it usually made for a crowded bed. Since Benjamin's bed was a regular twin bed, often Meron or I would get up and go sleep in there for a little more room.

Obviously, this got to the point where it just wasn't tenable. So Meron decided, with a little bit of our Christmas bonus, to get a set of bunkbeds for Benjamin's room and move the twin bed into Sarah's room. The idea was that either they'd both use the bunkbeds or Sarah would appreciate her own big bed.

So, a little after the first of the year, my friend Jon came down on a Sunday afternoon and put the beds together. It has worked better than we expected. Sarah wanted to sleep in the bunkbeds, so she takes the bottom bunk while Benjamin is up top. And since the very first night, the only time we've had either of them in our room is when they've been sick. They've piled up both beds with stuffed animals and really enjoy them. Sarah still stirs often in the night, but usually all it takes is to peek in, make sure she lays back down, and she's back asleep.

Here's some pictures of them right after we got the beds.

Carpal tunnel surgery in the morning for me, so I'll let you know how that turns out....sometime!
