OK, so Friday night's game wasn't bad at all. The finger didn't bother me too much and the team didn't get heartburn from the game, mainly because we had an opponent who knew how to play church league softball. They realized we were shorthanded (we got only 9 on the field) and after scoring two or three runs with no one out. We were able to close the gap late with a six run inning, including a grand slam by Bobby on a ball perfectly placed on the foul line, and made the final score respectable.
My first time up, there were two on and one out. I singled into the outfield, but it wasn't deep enough for the runner on second to score. The next two guys got out and we were unable to score.
The second time, there were two on again, this time with two outs. I smacked one back up the middle, scoring both runners and I went to second on the throw to the plate, where I was stranded.
Before my final AB, I had offered to come out of the game and let the one guy sitting on the bench take my spot. I knew we weren't going back out there and also, being that my average sat at .667 before the game, I figured I'd gotten all my hits. He declined the offer and apparently I was right, because I popped up a pitch in the infield. However, the shortstop dropped the ball, meaning that the runner from first was caught in no man's land and was forced at second. The infield fly rule should have been called there, but it wasn't. After a liner back to the pitcher for the second out, we drew back to back walks, loading the bases. A single drove in two (including me) and then, after another walk reloaded them, Bobby came through.
Two more games for me in the season, as we leave for Ohio on the 19th and will be gone for the last one. Maybe we'll eek out a win somewhere along the way!
